The Brisbane Broncos are in damage control tonight after the club inadvertently offered a multimillion dollar contract to NRL bad boy Greg Bird instead of up-and-coming superstar Jack Bird.
The administration error was made by the Broncos contract team and it appears it may be a mistake the club can’t back away from.
“We jotted the wrong first name down on the contract and our legal staff sent the offer to Greg Bird in France by mistake – obviously Greg accepted the terms immediately and is already on his way to Brisbane,” Broncos CEO Joe Eillis said.
“This is a nightmare to be honest with you, not only have we missed out on the services of Jack Bird, but we have brought shame to our city by willingly inviting Greg Bird to live here – this is truly a dark day for Brisbane.”
Greg Bird was unavailable for comment as he is currently on the red eye flight to Brisbane, however he did tweet the following:
