Andrew Fifita has made the decision to be a drain on the Tongan national team instead of the NSW State of Origin team this year.
“It was a tough call but I just think I can do more damage to Tonga’s reputation,” Fifita said.
“In a way i’ve already taken so much from NSW that I think I really need to look for a new challenge – my work there is done I suppose.”
Tongan head coach Kristian Woolf is understandably disappointed by the decision but ultimately agrees with Fifita.
“It would’ve been nice to see Andrew destroy at least one more series for NSW but I have to respect his decision to move on to greener pastures I guess,” Woolf said.
“We’ll just have to prepare for our next international match as best as we can and make sure we have plenty of security and legal advisors around him.”
Tickets are still available to watch Tonga lose to Samoa thanks to Fifita in June.
