Dragons halfback Josh McCrone has hit back at suggestions he has employed the services of an identical twin to play in his stead this season.
The accusation was made by an unnamed NRL official who has been comparing videos of McCrone’s performance from this year with last year.
“The difference is extraordinary, last year Josh looked lethargic in reserve grade, enjoyed repeatedly kicking the ball dead and would routinely forget the rules of rugby league – whereas this year he is actually playing quite well,” the NRL source told us.
“I’m convinced we have a Josh McCrone imposter playing for the Dragons and I would like to see fingerprint testing carried out ASAP.”
But Josh McCrone has rubbished the claim, suggesting the haters were just out to get him.
“I do not have an identical twin, this whole story is garbage,” McCrone told reporters at training this morning.
“Besides Jack looks heaps different to me so there is no way anyone would notice.”
In unrelated news, Josh McCrone’s identical twin brother Jack has been dropped from the All Australian Track and Field Team due to poor form.
“I just don’t understand it? Only two months ago he was running the 100m in under 10 seconds and breaking records in multiple events, now he is running off the track like a demented greyhound and insists on carrying a half-deflated Steeden wherever he goes – it’s very disappointing,” Jack McCrone’s coach said.
