Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has hit out against the prospect of same-sex marriage becoming legal in Australia, claiming the move would inevitably lead to him wearing women’s clothing in parliament again.
“Look, this is a very slippery slope and if we don’t put a lid on this thing now then who knows what female garments I may be expected to wear in parliament,” Mr Abbott said.
“At first it might just be a bit of lippy, then a dash of foundation, and then before you know it I’m wearing female underpants, and as comfortable as they may be, I’m taking a stand against it now before it’s too late.”
When quizzed as to what the link is between allowing gay people to marry and straight men wearing women’s clothing, Mr Abbott appeared uncomfortable to go into detail.
“Look, I’m not going to run a commentary on my crossdressing, this is all very confronting frankly. Let me just say this, I do not want to return to that phase in my life again. I was curious once, but now I am not. Vote no to same-sex marriage and allow me to burn my secret wardrobe forever, thanks,” a clearly perspiring Mr Abbott told the media.
